What a Rosette Is

A rosette is a small fabric flower made by pleating or gathering cloth until it reads as a rose — a three-dimensional flower attached to the garment, rather than a printed image. The fabric is folded into petals and secured at the base, then sewn or fixed to the suit. The result sits on the surface of the fabric, casting its own shadow.

Rosette vs Floral Print

The two flowers differ in dimension. A rosette is built from real fabric — gathered, folded and attached, so it stands off the surface. A floral print is ink on the fabric — flat by definition. Applique is the wider family of sewn-on shapes, and the rosette is its most three-dimensional member.

Where Rosettes Sit

Rosettes appear where a detail can carry: at the shoulder or neckline of a top, at the side of a bottom, or as a single accent at the center front. The placement is decorative — the flower adds a focal point without changing the suit’s cut or coverage.

The rosette is attached by sewing or adhesive, so it behaves as a trim: the suit beneath is ordinary swim construction, and the flower sits on top of it.

Caring for Rosette Pieces

Rosettes are sewn or glued on, so they need gentler handling than the suit itself: wash inside out, avoid heavy agitation that can catch the petals, and dry flat so the gathered flowers keep their shape.
